Sylhet Women’s Medical College is a situated in the heart of Sylhet City. Sylhet city is Divisional Headquarters of Sylhet, it is about 350 KM from Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. Sylhet is the land of saints and Sufis & regarded as the spiritual city of Bangladesh. It has excellent rail, Road, air and river communication linked with the capital city of Dhaka as well as the port city of Chittagong. The Mission

The mission of Sylhet Women’s Medical College & Hospital (SWMCH) is to provide high –quality, Medical education to all students and to be the primary teaching hospital in Sylhet. Our goals include offering training opportunities to nurses and allied health professionals, as well as to provide the setting for ongoing clinical research that helps bring medical advances from the laboratory to the patients beside. We endeavor to serve the community as a public health advocate, to provide support and services which response to the area’s healthcare needs through health education, health promotion and access to care.

Sylhet Women’s Medical College and hospital is a state of the art teaching and medical facility with a unique architectural design throughout its 3 high rise buildings built on 130000 square feet of land in the heart of Sylhet city. Presently, we treat approximately at 22000 patients in emergency department and 25000 discharges from Sylhet Women’s Medical College annually.

College Accommodation

The college consists of a number of modern multi-storied building in its own picturesque campus which accommodates all the departments required for the MBBS course. There are sufficient amenities for lectures, tutorial and practical classes of the varied subjects. In symposiums as well as other activities.

Teaching Method

The medium of teaching is English. Teaching will be imparted to the students through lectures, demonstrations, tutorials, ward clinics, practical classes and field visits periodic clinical meetings, seminars are held on specific topics regularly.

Students of the hostel must reside in their allotted seats at the hostel. The Hostel is situated within the campus. Hostels have the facilities such as dining room, common room with arrangements for games, TV etc.


SWMCH library is fully air contained. It is enriched with a good collection of the most up to date editions of books to meet the needs of the students and teachers. It is a gigantic collection that includes text books, reference books, and medical journal of varied disciplines as well as access to internet resources.

Course and Departments

Sylhet Women’s Medical College offer 5 years MBBS course approved by BM & DC leading to MBBS degree of the Sylhet Medical university. The college has been permitted by the Ministry of health and family welfare, Govt. of the people’s republic of Bangladesh and affiliated with Sylhet medical university.

There will be 4 professional examinations during the MBBS Courses. 2 terms final examinations in one year on first week of January & on first week of July. Student must attend at least 75% of classes and appear in each form of examination with successful result.

Foreign Students must follow this criteria

A limited number of seats will be offered for foreign nationals. The interested applicants must fulfill the following criteria for eligibility for admission.

  • Applicants must have passed qualifying examination i.e. 12th grade (10+2=12 years) of schooling at a public School/Board/College or passed an examination in any foreign country which is recognize higher Secondary Certificate Examination(SSC).
  • Applicants must have passed Higher Secondary Certificate Examination or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their major/compulsory subjects.
  • Applicants must have obtained at least 75% marks in average (which is equivalent to GPA 4.0 or equivalent grade in Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary School Certificate examinations or in equivalent examinations (i.e. equivalent grade in A-level or O-level examination ) and should have at least 65% marks separately in either of these examinations (i.e. GPA 3.50 or equivalent grade). In case of O-level examination, marks, grades of only six subjects (top 6 subjects on the basis of marks/grades obtained) will be considered. In case of A-level examination, marks/grades of Physics, Chemistry and Biology will be considered for evaluation.
  • Attested copies of certificates and marks sheets etc. have to be furnished along with the application. All certificates and marks-sheets must be attested by the Ministry of application.
  • The successful applications will require to produce all original academic certificates and mark sheets in during admission.
